It seems that every year many people resolve to eat healthier and engage in more physical activity. I don’t think I ever made those my New Year’s Resolution. A healthy diet is something I strive for all year round. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail. However, I always try, especially when eating out. I make it a point to look at low calorie menu items first, before anything else.
I took my mom, Big B, and Little B with me to try the new low calorie menu items at Panera Bread®. (Disclosure: Sponsored post.) From the new menu, we ordered the All Natural Turkey Chili and Mediterranean Shrimp Couscous Salad. Other items we ordered weren’t actually new, they were just hidden, like the Power Chicken Humus Bowl. Of course, we also ordered our favorites like the Broccoli Cheese Soup and Asian Sesame Chicken Salad.
Low Calorie Menu Items at Panera Bread®

We are no strangers to Panera Bread and have tried several of their salads. I would have to say that the Power Chicken Humus Bowl is now one of my favorites. It’s a simple, no fuss salad that packs a lot of punch all for 330 calories. It doesn’t come with a dressing, just a half lemon. I initially didn’t even bother with the lemon, the cilantro humus was enough of a dressing for me. However, after I squeezed lemon all over the bowl, it just brightened up the whole dish. Another plus, Big B gave the citrus and pepper chicken a thumbs up.
I was pleasantly surprised with the chili soup. It was really good. I’m not a big fan of chili, but this one, I will order again. It was flavorful, hearty, and all for 90 calories. There’s so much depth to the flavor that you can’t even tell that it’s turkey chili. I purposely saved some to take home for hubby so he can try it himself. He’s more into chili than I am, and he definitely agrees with me.
The Mediterranean Shrimp Couscous Salad is a big salad. I mean, two people can share this thing. My picture doesn’t do this salad justice. I couldn’t believe that this entire salad was just 360 calories. The one thing that I didn’t expect was the sweetness of it. I really liked how the lemon balsamic vinaigrette dressing and the olives cut the sweetness of the couscous blend. It was a good balance.
I really enjoyed trying all these low calorie menu items from Panera. I love that they are low calorie, though a little heavy on the sodium (as per the nutrition profiles). Overall, they were delicious, and certainly worthy of a repeat order.
